Donating Breast Milk
Breast Milk Donation
- Families with extra breast milk can choose to donate. Milk donated to a HMBANA (Human Milk Banking Association of North America) milk bank is pasteurized at the non-profit milk bank and then provided to infants in need. Most commonly the pasteurized breast milk is used for premature and ill infants who’s families are unable to provide their mothers own milk.
Steps to Donating Breast Milk
- Upon contacting a local milk bank, families will typically participate in an initial phone screening. Before accepting donations, the milk bank will also arrange screening blood tests at no cost to you.
